To deepen our understanding of volunteering in America and to promote its growth, the Corporation has created a comprehensive new interactive web tool--called Volunteering in America--that presents and analyzes the latest Census Bureau data on volunteer trends and demographics for all 50 states and more than 125 cities. The new website allows visitors to create customizable data sheets on areas of volunteering that interest them most, and contains links to a variety of useful resources.

I first joined VISTA in 1968: the year of the Beatles, flower children, demonstrations, LSD, marijuana, and the assassinations of Martin Luther King, Jr., and Robert F. Kennedy. After graduate school, I could have joined the demonstrations or “dropped out,” but I wanted to connect to a dividing nation. I needed to get involved.   I first joined VISTA in 1968: the year of the Beatles, flower children, demonstrations, LSD, marijuana, and the assassinations of Martin Luther King, Jr., and Robert F.
